L'œuvre en bref
This reinterpretation of the Statue of Liberty draws on the world of Edward Hopper, a great name of American Realism. Beneath a bluish-grey sky, the monument stands facing an almost deserted harbour, lined with a few industrial buildings. The pared-back composition and sober colours evoke Hopper’s urban landscapes, in which light, silent spaces and the absence of people create an atmosphere of solitude and contemplation. An unusual image of New York, in which the Statue of Liberty appears in all its monumentality, far from the bustle of the city.
