This creation reimagines the Palais des Papes through the world of Vincent van Gogh and his famous nocturnal landscapes of Provence, evoking in particular The Starry Night. Beneath a sky alive with circular movements and stars ringed with halos of light, the monument takes on golden hues reflected in the waters of the Rhône, while the Pont d’Avignon appears in the foreground. The thick, expressive brushstrokes, intense contrasts between blue and yellow and rhythmic movements of the sky, characteristic of Van Gogh’s painting, recall his Post-Impressionist approach, in which colour becomes a way of expressing emotion rather than faithfully reproducing reality.
