This creation reimagines the Easter Island Moai through the world of Paul Gauguin, deeply shaped by his stays in Polynesia. Lined up facing the ocean, the monumental statues stand beneath a sky in blazing shades of pink, yellow and orange. The expressive colours, simplified forms and large flat areas that define the Synthetism developed by Gauguin give the landscape a particular intensity. A warm, transporting composition in which the ancestral sculptures of Rapa Nui meet the artist’s pictorial imagination.
