This new take on Machu Picchu draws on Claude Monet, one of the masters of Impressionism. In the heart of the Peruvian mountains, the terraces of the ancient Inca city are revealed in soft light, between lush green vegetation and peaks in shades of blue and violet. The juxtaposed dabs of colour evoke Monet’s explorations of variations of light and atmospheric effects, in which shadows are tinted with blue and mauve rather than black. A delicate reading of Machu Picchu, in which the relief and vegetation come alive through the subtleties of colour.
