This new take on Petra draws on Claude Monet, one of the masters of Impressionism, whose painting gives pride of place to luminous sensations and colour harmonies. Amid the pink sandstone cliffs, the Khazneh is revealed among touches of ochre, blue and violet, while the vegetation adds deep accents of green. The contrasts between sunlit rocks and cool shadows recall Monet’s explorations of the colours of the landscape and the effects of natural light. A sensitive image of the Nabataean city, in which architecture and nature come together in a single pictorial atmosphere.
