L'œuvre en bref
This transposition of Hagia Sophia draws on the artistic explorations of Pablo Picasso, a pillar of Cubism. The dome and minarets of Istanbul unfold in a composition in shades of blue, ochre and terracotta. The various architectural elements seem to interlock, creating a new perception of space. By breaking free from the traditional rules of perspective, this creation takes up one of the great innovations of Cubism and offers a modern vision of Byzantine architecture, while preserving the emblematic silhouette of the monument.
