L'œuvre en bref
This new take on Hagia Sophia draws on J. M. W. Turner, one of the masters of British Romanticism. Bathed in golden light, the Istanbul basilica appears above the rooftops of the city, while its dome and minarets emerge from a hazy atmosphere. As in his famous views of Venice, Turner gave pride of place to atmospheric effects, favouring variations of light and plays of transparency. This creation captures that sensibility in a palette of ochre, yellow and orange, offering a peaceful and majestic vision of the monument.
