This reinterpretation of Chillon Castle draws on the pictorial world of J. M. W. Turner, one of the masters of British Romanticism. Bathed in golden light, the monument stands on the shore of Lake Geneva, surrounded by mountains whose outlines fade into the mist. The setting sun lights up the sky with yellow and orange hues, while its reflections stretch across the calm waters. The play of transparency, glazes and subtle variations of light typical of Turner’s painting create a hazy atmosphere in which forms seem to dissolve into the landscape. A luminous, contemplative composition that evokes the artist’s fascination with the power of nature.
