L'œuvre en bref
This new take on the Jet d’Eau in Geneva draws on the pictorial world of Nicolas de Staël and his darkly toned compositions. At the centre of the canvas, the jet of water bursts up as an imposing white mass, contrasting with the deep blacks and shades of grey of the Geneva landscape. The broad flat areas of paint, thick impasto and simplified forms typical of de Staël’s technique build the composition in blocks of colour and texture. Between figuration and abstraction, the monument keeps its emblematic silhouette while becoming a play of volumes and luminous contrasts.
