The Wedding belongs to the period when Fernand Léger was fully exploring Cubism, fragmenting forms and multiplying points of view. The theme of marriage, traditional in history painting, is treated here without linear narration. The artist is primarily interested in the construction of space and the articulation of figures in a dense composition. The characters are not isolated; they are part of a complex whole in which volumes and planes intersect.

The surface is saturated with geometric shapes. The bodies are broken down into angular facets, mixing shades of grey, brown, green and blue. Several figures appear superimposed, some recognisable by fragments of faces or clothing. The contours are fragmented and the volumes seem to be intertwined. Large, light-coloured shapes cross the composition, creating diagonals that structure the space. The absence of traditional perspective reinforces the impression of a fragmented space, constructed by the juxtaposition of planes.
