L'œuvre en bref
This new take on the canals of Amsterdam draws on Vincent van Gogh, a Dutch painter and one of the masters of Post-Impressionism. Beneath a night sky alive with blue swirls, a golden moon watches over the gabled houses, whose lit windows are reflected in the canal in long yellow trails. A street lamp, a bicycle leaning against the railing and a bridge with illuminated arches enliven the foreground. The thick impasto, rhythmic brushstrokes and contrast between midnight blue and gold that define Van Gogh’s painting recall The Starry Night. A vibrant, warm image and a nod to the artist’s homeland.
