This transposition of Mont-Saint-Michel draws on the pictorial world of Claude Monet. At dawn, the monument emerges delicately from the mist, while the rising sun bathes the bay in shades of pink, orange and mauve. The light is reflected on the water and the wet sands, gradually softening the outlines of the landscape. The broken brushstrokes and subtle variations of colour typical of Impressionist painting evoke Monet’s explorations of the changing effects of light and atmosphere. A soft, luminous composition in which the monument seems to melt into the landscape.
