This creation reimagines the Acropolis of Athens through the art of Paul Cézanne, a major figure of Post-Impressionism. Perched on its rock, the Parthenon overlooks a landscape of bluish hills, cypresses and ochre-toned houses. The relief takes shape through a succession of coloured dabs that give the rocks and vegetation a sense of solidity. By building forms through colour rather than traditional drawing, Cézanne developed an innovative approach to painting that paved the way for Cubism. The painting captures this spirit in a structured, luminous vision of the ancient site.
