L'œuvre en bref
This creation reimagines Milan Cathedral through the geometric, colourful world of Fernand Léger, a singular figure of Cubism. The Gothic façade is built from simplified volumes and strong architectural lines, mixing flat areas of red, blue, yellow and black. In the foreground, the stylised figures of passers-by recall the artist’s interest in modern life. The geometric forms, black outlines and contrasts of bold colours that define his pictorial language, inspired by the industrial aesthetic, give the cathedral a monumental and dynamic presence. An encounter between Gothic architecture and the artistic modernity of the 20th century.
