The artist

Edvard Munch, a pioneer of expressionism in modern painting, was born in 1863 in Ådalsbruk and died in 1944 in Oslo. Very early on, he was known in Europe as a member of a new artistic wave, and the importance of his work is now recognized throughout the world. His preferred techniques are painting and tempera on cardboard. Munch is also a fervent believer in art that is accessible to all and not hidden, that is to say art unveiled in the streets, public spaces.
