The artist

Leonardo da Vinci, born in Tuscany in 1452 and died in France in 1519, was an Italian painter and universal thinker often described as the symbol of the Renaissance man. It is first as a painter that da Vinci is recognized. Two of his works, the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper are world famous. Only about fifteen of his paintings have survived to this day.
